Does Any of This Sound Familiar?
- You wake up tired, no matter how much you slept.
- Things you used to enjoy feel flat, or like one more item on the list.
- You’re still getting through work and responsibilities, but it takes everything you have.
- You cancel plans because you can’t face people, then feel guilty for canceling.
- Your inner voice keeps saying “what’s the point” or “I should be handling this better.”
- People tell you to get outside or think positive. You already know. Knowing isn’t the problem.
If you recognized yourself in that list, you’re in the right place.
The world seems to stop
Experiencing depression can feel debilitating. Your world seems to stop even though on the inside you really don’t want it to. You try so hard to make changes, to do something, but it feels as if each molecule in you just can’t do it. Nearly a third of the global population struggles with depression at some time in their lives. What this means is you are not alone. And thankfully, there are many research-backed approaches to help guide you out.
It’s just too much
While depression is unique to each individual, there are some commonalities. Do any of these sound familiar to you? You feel down or depressed much of the day or most days. You struggle feeling worthwhile in your life. Hopefulness, some days, feels like a faint light you used to know.
Things that brought you joy and excitement, you don’t know what the feels like anymore. Your sleep is thrown off along with your energy, health, and relationships with family and friends. You notice procrastinating at work or having trouble keeping up with life’s daily demands. You might even have feelings of shame or guilt. It all just feels too much.
How did I get here?
It can feel very confusing to understand why you might be feeling the way you are. I know it doesn’t solve everything, but it’s important to understand that depression is a response to a stressful event. It is your brain and nervous system’s way of attempting to protect itself.
Think of a wild animal that freezes when trying to hide from a threat. Depression is the human version of that. You might have experienced a family or work stress that has been prolonged and stretched out. Or maybe you’re going through a difficult life transition.
You’re a new parent trying to find balance, or adjusting to a new job and location. Perhaps you’ve lost an important person in your life and are grieving. You may even be trying to manage a chemical imbalance from the result of genetic factors, medical diagnoses, or substance use.
Depression Rarely Shows Up Alone
Depression often travels with other struggles. It’s common alongside anxiety, trauma, and the strain of relationship issues. It also shows up often in people living with chronic pain or chronic illness, where months of symptoms, appointments, and uncertainty can wear down anyone’s mood.
If any of that is part of your story, we’ll work on it together. You don’t have to sort your problems into separate boxes before reaching out.
There is hope
Whatever your reason is, I am here to help. Depression IS treatable and there IS hope. With my experience of working with adults across the lifespan and in diverse settings, I can meet you where you are ready to begin. I understand the uniqueness of depression and prioritize tailoring my approach to meet your needs.
My approach will help you:
- Have a space to let your unique emotional and psychological experience feel seen and understood.
- Tackle root causes to help you create meaningful and long-lasting change in your life.
- Learn and use effective cognitive, behavioral, and emotional strategies to lift your depression and improve your self-esteem and confidence
- Incorporate integrative and holistic approaches to support your recovery.
- Understand and re-write thought processes that are not serving you anymore and replace them with more balanced thinking.
What We Actually Work On
Sessions are practical. Depending on what’s weighing on you most, we might spend time on:
Getting moving again. Depression tells you to wait until you feel motivated. The trouble is that motivation usually follows action, not the other way around. We start with small, doable steps that bring back energy and a sense of accomplishment.
The thought loops. “I’m failing.” “Nothing is going to change.” “Everyone else has it together.” We learn to catch these thoughts, question them, and loosen their grip.
Sleep, energy, and routine. Depression disrupts the basics, and disrupted basics make depression worse. Rebuilding a steadier rhythm often helps more than people expect.
Self-criticism and shame. Many people with depression are far harder on themselves than they would ever be on a friend. We work on responding to yourself with more understanding.
Connection. Depression pulls you away from people right when you need them most. We look at small, manageable ways to reconnect with the relationships that matter to you.
Effectively get unstuck
My priority as your therapist is to provide you with effective tools and perspectives to help you feel unstuck. I also deeply value the importance of incorporating compassion and understanding of your unique individual psychological experience. I strive to give you these tools within this framework. If you’re ready to move forward, give me a call to schedule a free 20 minute consultation phone call.

Online Depression Therapy, Made Simple
When you’re depressed, even getting out the door can feel like too much. Online therapy takes the commute, the waiting room, and half a day of rearranging out of the equation.
All you need is a private space where you feel comfortable talking, a phone, tablet, or computer, and a stable internet connection. No special software to figure out.
Research has found online therapy to be as effective as in-person sessions for many people with depression. The connection, the progress, and the support are all still there.
Common Questions About Depression Therapy
Everyone has low stretches. It’s worth reaching out if the heaviness has lasted more than a couple of weeks, or if it’s getting in the way of work, relationships, sleep, or the things you care about. You don’t need to be sure. That’s what the free consultation is for.
No. Many people come in simply knowing something feels off. If you plan to use insurance, a diagnosis is typically part of billing, and we’ll talk that through together.
Not necessarily. Therapy on its own helps many people with depression, and for others a combination of therapy and medication works best. As a psychologist, I don’t prescribe, but I’m glad to coordinate with your doctor or psychiatrist if you’re taking medication or considering it
It varies. Many people start noticing changes within the first several weeks. For more structured programs like CBT for depression treatment often runs about 12 to 20 sessions, and some people choose to continue longer to work on deeper patterns. We’ll check in on your progress along the way.
For most people, yes. Research comparing video sessions with in-person therapy has found similar results for depression, and many people find it easier to stay consistent when they don’t have to leave home.
If you’re in Texas and have Aetna or Carelon Behavioral Health, yes. Otherwise, sessions are self-pay, and I provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. See Insurance & Rates for details.
Please don’t wait for a consultation. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline any time, day or night, or call 911 if you’re in immediate danger. Once you’re safe, therapy can be part of the longer road, and I’m here for that.
