In Practice Since 2012
My name is Shruti, licensed psychologist (License #: 38571) practicing in Texas. My interest in the human mind started young. Having a unique cultural upbringing, I was often intrigued by the way people moved through life with their particular individual traits. Since then, I have been in awe of people and the lives we create. I have worked in diverse clinical settings since 2012, ranging from large hospital systems, local community centers, rural telehealth clinics, and VA systems. In that time I have seen the capability people have for growth, change, and healing. But I have also seen the pain and sadness we all struggle with. I’m no stranger to these as well. Some say it is part of the human experience. And it’s hard…very hard.
My Goal
But this is where I come in. Having experience in various clinical environments means that I have worked with people from many different walks of life and have helped them find their way through diverse struggles. My goal is to provide you with a supportive, collaborative, and effective space to help you become the best version of yourself. Whether you are new to therapy or want to continue your previously started journey, I invite you to take the step towards living the life you want to live.
More About Me
A little more about me- If you’re wondering, my first name is pronounced like “Ruthie” but with an -sh in front. I value continuously expanding my knowledge and have been known to thoroughly enjoy a book on affective neuroscience while lying on the beaches of Florida. I enjoy helping the new generation of psychologists and have actively supervised and trained doctoral students. In my spare time I enjoy spending my weekends on the farm my husband and I are building (with our two cats, three dogs, and number of other farm animals), staying active and enjoying the outdoors, and dabbling in small creative art projects. During our sessions, you might see Supervisor Simba, my cat in the photo above, drop in from time to time. He likes to make sure I’m doing my job well!
An Integrative Approach
Mental health IS health. Just as we address our physical health with multiple methods, so can we approach our mental health through multiple avenues. In our sessions, I incorporate all that is important to a well lived life, and most importantly, what is valuable to you. This includes the well-being of your emotional, social, physical health, and anything else that is vital to you. I utilize an integrative and empirically researched set of tools to facilitate meaningful change. My priority as your therapist is to provide you with a science-backed effective change experience that is tailored to your unique needs. For those interested in incorporating aspects of their physical well-being into mental health I offer ways to help understand the mind-body connection using education, mindfulness, deep breathing, and somatic based exercises. The mind and body are often connected in fascinating ways that, when understood, can foster confidence and growth.
I practice using a Person-Centered and Psychodynamic foundation which helps my clients build more self-awareness and insight into behavioral, cognitive, and emotional patterns. To then help you put awareness into practice, I use specific tools from empirically based treatment interventions including:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Cognitive Processing Therapy
- Mindfulness
- Prolonged Exposure
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
- Somatic Interventions
- Motivational Interviewing
- Relational and Attachment Focused Therapy
